In order to rapidly attenuate the vibration between the frame and the body, and improve the smoothness and comfort of car driving, shock absorbers are generally installed on the suspension system of cars. Currently, two-way action cylinder shock absorbers are widely used in cars.
Shock absorbers are vulnerable components in the use of automobiles. The performance of shock absorbers directly affects the smoothness of vehicle operation and the lifespan of other components. Therefore, we should keep shock absorbers in good working condition regularly. The following methods can be used to check whether the shock absorber is working properly.
1. After driving the car for 10km on a road with poor road conditions, stop and touch the outer shell of the shock absorber with your hand. If it is not hot enough, it means that there is no resistance inside the shock absorber and it is not working. At this point, appropriate lubricating oil can be added before conducting the test. If the shell heats up, it is due to a lack of oil inside the shock absorber, and sufficient oil should be added; Otherwise, it indicates that the shock absorber has failed.
2. When the car is driving slowly and emergency braking occurs, if the car vibrates violently, it indicates that there is a problem with the shock absorber.
3. Press down firmly on the bumper and then release it. If the car jumps 2-3 times, it indicates that the shock absorber is working properly.
4. Remove the shock absorber and stand it upright, clamp the lower connecting ring onto the vise, and apply force to pull and press the shock absorber rod several times. At this point, there should be stable resistance, and the resistance when pulling upwards should be greater than when pressing downwards. If the resistance is unstable or there is no resistance, it may be due to a lack of oil inside the shock absorber or damaged valve parts, which should be repaired or replaced.
After determining that there is a problem or failure with the shock absorber, the shock absorber should first be checked for oil leakage or signs of old oil leakage.
If there is no oil leakage in the shock absorber, the connecting pins, connecting rods, connecting holes, rubber bushings, etc. of the shock absorber should be checked for damage, detachment, cracking, or detachment. If the above inspection is normal, the shock absorber should be further disassembled to check whether the clearance between the piston and the cylinder is too large, whether the cylinder is pulled, whether the valve seal is good, whether the valve disc and valve seat are tightly fitted, and whether the tension spring of the shock absorber is too soft or broken. Depending on the situation, repair should be carried out by grinding or replacing parts.
The oil seal gasket and sealing gasket are broken and damaged, and the nut of the oil storage cylinder cover is loose. It may be due to damage or failure of the oil seal and sealing gasket, and new sealing components should be replaced. If the oil leakage still cannot be eliminated, the shock absorber should be pulled out. If the weight is uneven, further check whether the gap between the piston and the cylinder is too large, whether the shock absorber piston connecting rod is bent, and whether there are scratches or pull marks on the surface of the piston connecting rod and the cylinder.
In addition, shock absorbers may produce noise during actual use, mainly due to collisions with steel plate springs, frames, or shafts, damage or detachment of rubber pads, deformation of shock absorber dust cylinders, insufficient oil, and other reasons. The cause should be identified and repaired.
